PALMETTO -- Pedro Calvillo had been held scoreless.

Then the senior forward delivered two quick strikes in the first two minutes of the second half in Palmetto's Class 3A-District 10 boys soccer semifinal on Wednesday.

But it didn't bother Calvillo, who missed a penalty in the first half, that he didn't register a goal in the Tigers mercy-rule victory on Tuesday and needed a half on Wednesday before finding the net.

"For me, if the team scores then I'm content," Calvillo said.

And his team bagged enough to earn a second straight shutout when the Tigers routed visiting Dunedin 5-0 to advance to Friday's district championship.

That game is being held in Pinellas County at Seminole Osceola, which knocked off No. 2 seeded St. Petersburg Lakewood 2-1 on Wednesday.

Despite Palmetto garnering the district's top seed, this year's venue for the fi

nal is held north of Manatee County after last winter's championship taking place in Palmetto.

But for the Tigers to claim the district title, they'll need to improve on Wednesday's effort.

"We have a few things to work on," Calvillo said. "Because the opportunities that we missed, other teams aren't going to give us those opportunities so we have to take our chances."

Head coach Dustin Dahlquist had the same reaction following Wednesday's clean sheet where Dunedin registered just one shot on goal.

It was a chippy game with the Falcons, who picked up four yellow cards and one red card for the 80 minute match.

"The good thing about that we get a lot of free kicks out of it," Dahlquist said. "I'm not necessarily sure that's the way you want to go, playing that kind of physical game especially now with the soft yellows gone. You collect a couple yellow cards and you're going to play a man down. It works to our advantage. They played a tough, physical game."

Nonetheless, Palmetto (21-1-3) won yet again and will make the program's 11th district championship appearance out of Dahlquist's 12 years at the helm.

"We'll take it," Dahlquist said. "Coaching this team is fairly easy compared to two years ago when they were all freshman and sophomores. And coaching them to see where they have come."

In addition to Calvillo churning out a solid game, Hunter Brown followed up Tuesday's hat trick performance with two assists. One was perfectly placed atop Javis Paniagua's head that was redirected inside the far post.

Zach Reda found the net from long range, and Gregorio Calvillo rounded out the Tigers scoring.

Next up is Osceola, which has played Palmetto tough this season. The Tigers won the regular season meeting 3-2, while playing to a draw in tournament action.

"We have to travel," Dahlquist said. "Any time you go on the road, that presents some different types of difficulties for us. But we'll be ready."
