MANATEE -- A crash destroyed an ultra-light aircraft Sunday afternoon in the 3200 block of Mendoza Road, but the 47-year pilot from Palmetto was not injured, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The pilot had just taken off at 2:45 p.m. and was at tree level when his Blue Rotax 447 Ultra-Light lost power. He clipped the top of the trees on the south side of Mendoza Road and then crashed on the north side of Mendoza Road.
