Health Department offers flu shots to businesses
MANATEE -- Florida is experiencing an early influenza season with elevated and widespread flu activity. For many, a flu infection will mean lost work or school days. As such, the Manatee County Health Department now offers flu shots on-site at local businesses.
Businesses with 10 or more interested employees are eligible to have a health department team visit to administer flu shots to employees. Dr. Jennifer Bencie, administrator of the Manatee County Health Department, says "providing flu shots to employees at their workplace saves time for employers and employees.
This year's flu activity is higher than we've seen in the past. It is not too late to receive a flu vaccine and it is the best tool we have to protect ourselves against the virus."
Flu shots are recommended for individuals older than six months. Flu shots are offered at $25 per person, and can also be obtained at the Manatee County Health Department. Medicare Part B is accepted. For more information, call the Manatee County Health Department 941-748-0747, ext. 1476.
