Bradenton man charged with shoplifting sex toy at DeSoto Square mall

January 15, 2013

MANATEE -- A 19-year-old man charged with shoplifting an "adult pleasure device" from a store in DeSoto Square mall is due in court on Feb. 14 -- Valentine's Day.

Alexander Marcelino Perez of Bradenton entered the Spencer's Gift Store about 5:30 p.m. and asked for a job application. He immediately went to the rear store, where a loss prevention officer saw him place the item, valued at $16.99, in his pants pocket. Perez then left the store, according to a sheriff's office report.

The officer stopped Perez in the common area of the mall. He was returned to the store and arrested.

Perez was released from the Manatee County jail on Tuesday, after posting $120 bond on a charge of shoplifting.

He is due in court at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 14.
