BRADENTON — A second teenager has been charged with murder in Manatee County’s first homicide of the year, according to the newly formed countywide Homicide Investigations Unit.

Jimmy Rivers, 15, was arrested Friday after turning himself in. Danny Waiters, 17, was arrested in Jan. 3.

Both are charged with murder in the Jan. 1 shooting that killed Paul Grieco, 19, and injured a 20-year-old man.

Grieco and two other men went to a Chevron gas station, 1832 Manatee Ave. E., at about 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

Waiters, Rivers and another person who has not been charged in the case allegedly approached a vehicle occupied by Grieco and his friends.

During the exchange, someone allegedly pointed a gun through the window of the victims’ vehicle and fired multiple shots, according to the sheriff’s office. Detectives believe the shooting may have been drug-related.

Grieco was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Another victim with non-life-threatening injuries was taken to Blake Medical Center, where detectives interviewed him about the incident. The third victim fled the scene.
