Sarasota police search for convicted murderer in double shooting

SARASOTA -- Police are searching for a convicted murderer investigators believe shot two men late Tuesday.

Joseph T. Lamar, who released from prison in September 2012, is wanted on charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

"He should be considered armed and dangerous," a news release states.

The shooting happened about 10:18 p.m. in the 3200 block of Lemon Avenue.

One victim, a 22-year-old man was flown by helicopter to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, and the other, a 19-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to Sarasota Medical Center, according to a news release.

Lamar, 39, was released from prison after serving more than 19 years of a 25-year sentence for second-degree murder in a case out of Sarasota County, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
