Former state senator Mike Bennett on Tuesday was sworn in as Manatee County's new elections supervisor.

Bennett, who was elected in November, takes over for longtime supervisor Bob Sweatt, who retired after 28 years in office.

Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston administered the oath of office to Bennett. Several other elected officials, including county commissioners John Chappie and Carol Whitmore, and state Rep. Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, attended the brief ceremony at the elections office in Bradenton.

After he was sworn in, Bennett administered a similar oath to other employees at the elections office.
