January 7, 2013

RUSKIN -- The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery and shooting at a Ruskin hotel.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, emergency personnel and deputies responded to the Ruskin Inn in the 3100 block of East College Avenue just before 4 a.m. The hotel is located just west of the State Road 674 interchange with Interstate 75.

A hotel clerk told authorities she had walked outside to check on a complaint about noisy people. The clerk said when she got outside, she was confronted by a suspect who robbed her.

Authorities said that during the robbery, shots were fired and the clerk suffered a head injury. She was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where she was alert and talking, authorities said.

Officials said the incident was captured on surveillance tape although a suspect description may be difficult to gain from the video. The incident remains under investigation.
