Golf | Bradenton's Liu edged out at Harder Hall

HERALD STAFF REPORTJanuary 7, 2013

SEBRING -- Bradenton 13-year-old Mika Liu shot a second straight 1-under-par 71 at the Harder Hall Women's Invitational in Sebring, but she finished second in the tournament after Erica Popson of Davenport sank a 10-foot putt on the 18th hole to win the 58th annual event.

Liu held at least a share of the lead after every round and entered Sunday's final round at Harder Hall Country Club with a one-shot lead over Hannah Pietila of Brighton, Mich.

Popson was three shots ahead with three holes to go, but her putter cooled off to bring Liu back in to contention. On the 18th, Liu sank a 17-footer and forced Popson to hole her putt to win. Popson shot a 68 in the final round for a 282 total to beat Liu by one stroke.

Former Bradenton resident Isabelle Lendl finished 19th with a 300 total.
