SARASOTA — Three persons were injured when fire broke out Sunday afternoon on a 22-foot cabin cruiser in the Gulf of Mexico, several miles outside of Venice Inlet, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

The captain of the boat was able to navigate the boat to a dock at the Crows Nest in Venice where paramedics were waiting. The captain of the boat was treated for minor injuries. A second occupant of the boat was transported to Venice Hospital.

A third person who was injured was brought by a citizen in a second boat to the Nokomis boat ramp where he was treated by Sarasota County Fire personnel and transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Paramedics indicated that the burns related to the vessel fire but did not appear life threatening. An investigation is being completed by Florida Fish and Wildlife officers into the cause of the fire.
