Faith Matters: 'Deep calls unto deep' is a call for communion

January 5, 2013

There is a portion of scripture found in Psalm 42:7; "deep calls unto deep" that I would like to share my thoughts with you today. I have heard this briefly quoted in sermonsand in worship songs for many years and it always would touch my heart and my spirit in a profound way.

During the last several months those familiar words repeatedly came to my mind from several avenues that drew me to seek greater revelation so to know Him, and become more like Him in greater measure.

Through prayer and study, so not to violate scriptural integrity, I discovered that the deep calling unto deep are the deep things of God calling to the deep things of man; you and I.

In essence, this is the Spirit of God reaching deep into the spirit of His children, bypassing all that which would attempt to impede that sweet communion and fellowship God so passionately desires to have with us.

It is in part, living out the words of Jesus when He said; "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship inspirit and truth" (John 4:24).

Worshiping Him in spirit is man's spirit responding to the Spirit of God's calling to the deep. A deeper relationship with Him through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that gives us the perpetual right of entry into "The Most Holy Place;" God's glorious presence!

It is important to know and receive that for those who have asked Jesus into their lives now become "The Most Holy Place," as believer you are now the "Ark of the New Covenant" literal carriers of the very deep that calls to you, not from a world far far away, but rather from within.

Here are three scriptures to seal this vital truth:

n Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, "The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17:20-21).

n But we have this treasure in earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7).

n Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

The word deep in Psalm 42:7 includes in its meaning; great. All of God; The Great I Am, lives in all of those who have received Jesus Christ and He has great things in mind for you as you respond to the deeper things of His Kingdom.

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11).
