MANATEE -- A man was robbed at knifepoint early Thursday by his two roommates, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim owed the two suspects money for rent and utilities, so about 4:30 a.m. he agreed to go with them to the Hess gas station/convenience store at 6706 14th St. W. to make a purchase for the amount owed, according to a news release.

Once in the parking lot, there was a disagreement about the amount owed. A male suspect, Jeff A. Stewart, 51, pulled a knife and placed it to the victim's throat while a female suspect, April L. Canfield, 33, took the victim's wallet from his pocket, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspects ordered the victim to provide his personal identification number. When he complied, they went into the store and used the victim's debit card to buy several items, the report states.

The suspects fled in their car while the victim remained in the parking lot.

Responding deputies arrested Canfield a short time later on an armed robbery charge, but Stewart has not been located, according to the sheriff's office.

Canfield was being held without bond at the Manatee County jail on charges of armed robbery and credit card fraud.
