Pirates set job fairs

BRADENTON -- The Pittsburgh Pirates are holding a concessions job fair Jan. 9 and Jan. 23 at Pirate City, 1701 27th St. E.

The baseball team is hiring gameday staff for the 2013 spring training. It is also accepting applications for the Bradenton Marauders season.

The fairs will be 1 to 7 p.m. Jan. 9 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 23. Interested applicants will be interviewed on the spot at both job fairs.

Willis Smith selected as construction manger

SARASOTA -- Willis A. Smith Construction has been chosen as construction manager for Patriot Plaza at Sarasota National Cemetery.

The project includes the construction of Patriot Plaza, a ceremonial amphitheater. The project is funded by The Patterson Foundation and is expected to be completed by spring 2014.

Two local homebuilders report record years

MANATEE -- Lee Wetherington Homes and Neal Communities both reported record home sales for 2012.

Sales were up by 50 percent at Lee Wetherington Homes, the best since 2007.

"The real estate market in this area is definitely back and getting stronger every day," said Peter Mason, vice president of sales and marketing for Lee Wetherington Homes. "We had a tremendous growth year in 2012, adding on new employees and growing our business and we expect 2013 to be even better," said Mason.

Revenues in 2012 were also up by 38 percent for the new homebuilder, and the number of new homes currently in production are up 61 percent at 29, compared to 18 in 2011.

Neal Communities broke new sales records. The builder broke all previous sales records with 600 new home sales and a projected 487 closings.

"I could not be more proud of my entire team," said Pat Neal, president of Neal Communities. "We exceeded all goals every quarter this year and experienced tremendous growth with the addition of several new communities."

The 2012 sales results represents a 50 percent increase over 2011. The home-building company increased its team in 2012 by 36 people, adding staff in all areas including the new South Florida Division in Lee and Collier counties.

Massage Connections relocates to larger office

BRADENTON -- Massage Therapy Connections has relocated to 9020 58th Drive E., Suite 101.

The business, which opened in 2011, quickly outgrew its office space with an almost 35 percent increase in service revenue in 2012.

Massage Therapy Connections offers therapeutic massage, along with specialty certifications and spa-like amenities including foot and back scrubs, hot stone massage and detox wraps.
