Golden Apple rises again in Sarasota with 'Viagara Falls'

Published: December 27, 2012

The Golden Apple Celebrity Theatre, formerly The Golden Apple Dinner Theatre before being evicted from its longtime location in downtown Sarasota in September, is re-opens for business Saturday in its old spot on Pineapple Avenue.

The company, which dates back to 1971, will be presenting a production of the off-Broadway comedy "Viagara Falls."

Written by Joao Machado and Lou Cutell, the show features a cast of famous TV faces. They include Cutell (the proctologist on "Seinfeld"), Robert Pine (Sgt. Joseph Getraer on "CHiPS") and Teresa Ganzel (the busty blonde on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson").

Cutell's Charley and Pine's Moe are widowers, war buddies and lifelong pals. For his 77th birthday, Charley decides that he and Moe need to get, well, you guessed it.

Enter the lady of the evening played by Ganzel, the show's titular blue pills and a lengthy list of geriatric jokes.

Details: Dec. 29-Feb. 24, The Golden Apple Celebrity Theatre, 25 N. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. Tickets: $29 (Dec. 29-30), $40 (New Year's Eve including Champagne and party favors) and $37.50 (for regular performances). Information: 941-366-5604 or www.thegoldenapple.com.
