SARASOTA -- A woman was killed in a one-car accident on Interstate 75 Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Irene Anderson, 77, of Fort Myers Beach, was traveling southbound in the right lane, three miles north of Kings Highway in Sarasota County at about 10:35 a.m., when her Chevrolet Trail Blazer began to drift into the left lane, which was occupied by another vehicle, according to an FHP report.
Anderson then overcorrected by steering hard to the right causing her to drive onto the grass shoulder, the report said.
She then tried to steer back onto the roadway, crossing both lanes of southbound I-75 and then entering into the grass median. The left side tires furrowed into the grass causing the vehicle to overturn several times before coming to final rest on its roof.
Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.
