Names and faces: News about business people in Manatee, Sarasota counties

Robin Wentz, a Bradenton Realtor, has been awarded the 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Women's Council of Realtors. The annual award recognizes a Realtor member who exercises their potential as an entrepreneur and real estate industry leader and who shares their time, talent and expertise with others in the profession and in the community.

Other winners include Affiliate of the Year, Mike Koebel; Extra Effort, Ellen Sackett; Founders Award, Marie Avery; Honor Circle,Denine Kavany; Humanitarian of the Year, Paula Keegan-Bock; Memberof the Year, Pam Kalaczynski; Mentor of the Year, Sharon Villars; Rising Star, Lori Guerin and Presidents Award, Gail Shane.

Barbara Billings recently joined Wagner's East Manatee office as a sales associate. She has been a certified licensed appraiser for more than 20 years, owning her own office as well as managing appraisal departments for Household Bank and US Bank in their Ohio operations.

Seven Icard Merrill lawyers have been selected by their peers in the legal profession to be included in the 2013 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Thomas Icard and William Merrill were further recognized as "Attorneys of the Year" for the Tampa area -- Icard for mediation and construction law and Merrill for land use and zoning litigation. Charles L. Bartlett was recognized in four practice areas, commercial litigation, banking and finance litigation, construction litigation and real estate litigation. Michael J. Furen is recognized in three practice areas, land use and zoning law, land use and zoning litigation and real estate law. Thomas F. Icard Jr. was recognized in two practice areas, construction law and mediation. William W. Merrill III was recognized in two practice areas, land use and zoning law and land use and zoning litigation. Robert K. Lincoln is recognized in two practice areas, land use and zoning law and land use and zoning litigation. Also named to The Best Lawyers 2013 list are Jaime Wallace, first time selection in the Family Law practice area, Robert Lyons for personal injury litigation, plaintiffs practice area.

Steve Parent was named partner in the Bradenton office and Joanna Hancock was named partner in the Albany, Ga., office of Mauldin & Jenkins, a certified public accounting firm.

Hancock has extensive experience in tax and accounting with a focus on individual, estate, trust and small business services. Parent has extensive experience in providing accounting and consulting services to commercial businesses, individuals, trusts and estates.

Edward Bailey is the newest member of the board for the South Manatee Business Coalition, an organization devoted to bolstering economic prosperity in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

Peg McKay Pluto has been named restaurant event coordinator for Tommy Bahama Restaurant on St. Armand's Circle. Pluto will work closely with the general manager to increase events for the restaurant and she will represent the company at local business functions, seek new business, coordinate all out reach marketing and charitable involvement.
