LWR Cinemas to host annual Cans Film Festival today

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Lakewood Ranch Cinemas will host its second annual Cans Film Festival at 9:30 a.m. today with the screening of "Santa Buddies, The Legend of Santa Paws" at their theaters, 10715 Rodeo Drive. Admission to the movie is free with the donation of a can of food, which will benefit All Faith Food Bank.

Theatergoers can also donate to the Lakewood Ranch Humane Society pet tree. Needed food bank items include canned and dry foods, healthy cereals, tuna and other canned meat, pasta, rice, peanut butter, canned soups, stews, canned vegetables and fruits, macaroni and cheese, flour and sugar, nutritious snacks, and 100 percent fruit juice.

The food banks are also in desperate need of baby cereal, formula, baby food and diapers.

Pet donations include small bite, puppy and regular dog food, metal dog or cat food bowls, cat litter, bleach, rawhide bones, and Pedigree wet dog food.

Grill helps with Feeding Empty Little Tummies

According to organizers of Feeding Empty Little Tummies Inc., $25 will feed one child for six weeks. Typical food items needed include oatmeal and cereal packs, pasta cups, fruit cups, raisins, beans with franks, and peanuts and almonds.

Burgers & Brew supports food bank, Toys for Tots

MANATEE -- AJ's Burgers & Brew, 3550 53rd Ave. W., in support of the Manatee Food Bank and Toys for Tots, is asking customers to bring in a nonperishable food item and receive $1 off a burger, sandwich or entrée. Those who bring in an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots will receive a free beer with the purchase of a burger, sandwich or entrée.

All discounts are for dine-in only meals.
