December 19, 2012

MANATEE -- A motorcyclist crashed while fleeing a deputy who was trying to make a traffic stop late Tuesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 9:24 p.m., a deputy was stopped in the 1400 block of Cortez Road, when he heard a loud motorcycle west of his location. He continued west on Cortez Road and saw the motorcycle stopped at the red light at 34th Street West, according to a news release.

When the light turned green, the motorcyclist took off at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued, and as it reached 51st Street West, the motorcyclist maneuvered between two vehicles stopped at the light before colliding with a car that then collided with another car.

The motorcyclist, identified as Joshua Silvani, was thrown about 155 feet from the motorcycle, according to the sheriff's office.

His condition was not known early Wednesday.
