2012 SCF Winter Commencement
Number of Graduates: A total of 201 graduates participated in two ceremonies out of 890 students eligible for graduation. In addition to associate degree graduates, this number included 25 Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates and the first class of seven Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Services Administration graduates.
Speakers: Sarah H. Pappas, president and CEO of the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation and president emeritus of State College of Florida.
Shining Moment: The national anthem was inspiring and unique as it was sung Friday by the SCF Chamber Choir conducted by Melodie Dickerson. Continuing SCF's strong music tradition, The alma mater was a treat from SCF music students including guitarist Ethan Howland and vocalists Christianna D'Amico, Nikkei Golden and Olivia D'Amico.
Best quotes: Commencement Speaker Sarah Pappas gave her six "jewels" for being a success in the work world. They were "Commit fully to your job. Learn to accept ambiguity and uncertainty. Keep learning. Learn how to teamwork. Be a fixer not a finger-pointer. Give back to your community."
Interesting sight: A breathless Kortny Hayden saying thanks at the microphone after winning the Outstanding Graduate Award. She won a $1,500 prize with it and, later, said she was "shocked and happy."
