SCF Classic gets under way Saturday with some prolific scoring teams

— The second annual SCF Classic gets unde rway Saturday, and for those who like high-scoring, Showtime-like basketball Hal Chasey Gymnasium is the place to be.

Host State College of Florida (10-3) is second nationally in points per game (104.6), first in assists (24.3), and seventh in 3-point percentage (43.1).

Under new coach Brock Erickson the high flying Manatees (10-3) are ranked sixth in the state JUCO poll and are coming off an historic victory when they beat Tallahassee Community College for the first time in history.

SCF has five players averaging double figures led by swingman Isaiah Williams (17.8 ppg) and guard Anders Hass (17.2 ppg). Others are Michael Sanchez (15.3 ppg), Savad Garner (14.6 ppg) and Obinna Oleka (10.7 ppg).

The field also includes ASA College of New York (9-1), which is 13th in the country in scoring averaging 91.6 points per game and scored 127 points in a game this season.

The field also includes defending Suncoast Conference champion Polk State, Indian River College (10-1), which is ranked 8th in the state, Broward College, Marion Military Institute (Ala), St. Thomas University JV and IMG Academies.
