Hit-and-run driver kills pedestrian in Manatee

MANATEE -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Monday in Bradenton, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

About 12:10 a.m., a pedestrian was walking west on 51st Avenue East near Jackmar Drive, just west of U.S. 301, when a westbound vehicle struck the walker. The pedestrian was thrown into a ditch, where they were found dead, according to FHP.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, FHP said.

The name of the victim was not release, pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about the driver or their vehicle can call FHP at 239-938-1800.
