System in gulf will bring rain, slight risk of severe storms

Published: December 10, 2012

It's about to get wet in at least some parts of the Bay area.

An area of showers with embedded thunderstorms in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to arrive Monday afternoon and continue into the evening.

Tuesday, there is a "slight risk" of severe thunderstorms, according to Bay News 9 chief meteorologist Mike Clay.

"The system is just developing, so the details are still being fine-tuned," Clay said. "However, we expect some heavy showers and thunderstorms tonight and then a short break Tuesday before another round of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night."

The rain chances will end by Wednesday night, Clay said.
