Wastewater line repair ongoing near McLewis Bayou in NW Bradenton

Published: December 7, 2012

MANATEE -- Manatee County workers are repairing a disjointed pipe at the intersection of Riverview Boulevard and 39th Street Court Northwest.

Crews have been working this week to repair a wastewater line that separated at the joint, causing groundwater to leak into the pipe, said Nick Azzara, Manatee County spokesman.

A section of 39th Street Court Northwest will be closed until the repairs are finished.

"Residents in the neigh-borhood noticed a depres-sion in the road and con-tacted the county," Azzara said.

Utility workers hope to finish the repair by Monday, which will require replacement of a 7-foot section of 8-inch pipe buried 12 feet deep.

Repair crews have encountered some difficulties with tides, but Azzara said none of the water has leaked into McLewis Bayou.

Coincidentally, construction is ongoing at the McLewis Bayou Bridge west of the leak. The wastewater line repair is expected to delay the bridge's opening a few days, Azzara said.
