UPCOMING EVENTS

Dec. 1: The 15th annual Jingle & Jog 5K Road Race to support Community Haven for Adults & Children with Disabilities will be held at 8 a.m. Dec. 1 at Community Haven, 4405 Desoto Road, Sarasota. Registration begins at 7 a.m. the day of the race. The registration fee is $30, $20 for Manasota Track Club members and children 12 and younger. Dec. 1: The fourth annual Turkey Run Regatta, hosted by Regatta Pointe Marina, will be run on Dec. 1 on the Manatee River. Expected classes are True Cruiser, Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, Pocket Cruiser, Racer Cruiser and Multihull. The pre-race day registration fee is $45. The race-day registration fee is $55. Dec. 1: The Firearms Training Institute of Sarasota will host an NRA First Steps Pistol Course at 8 a.m. Dec. 1 at the AmericInn Hotel Conference Room, 5931 Fruitville Road. The class starts at 8 a.m. The course will be taught by local NRA certified instructors and cover the basics of safe gun handling and shooting. The four-hour Course will emphasize the safe and proper handling and use of pistols. Participants will learn about firearm safety, parts and operation, shooting fundamentals, maintenance, storage options and much more. This course meets the Florida training requirements for Concealed Carry Permit applicants. Non-residents also are eligible. Dec. 5: Manatee County Parks and Recreation will host adult 4-on-4 and 5-on-5 flag football leagues this winter. Both leagues will play eight regular-season games, followed by a single-elimination tournament. The season will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Games will be played on Wednesday nights at G.T. Bray park. Team rosters for 4-on-4 may include up to eight players. Rosters for 5-on-5 may include up to 10 players. Teams are required to provide jerseys, flag belts and a football. The team entry fee is $325 for each league. Official team rosters are due upon registering. Registration will be held from Nov. 13-25 at the G.T. Bray Recreation Center, 5502 33rd Ave. Drive W. Dec. 7: Bradenton's 17th annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 7 starting on Old Main Street. The event benefits the Arthritis Foundation. The 5K run/walk begins at 7 p.m., and the 1-mile run/walk starts at 7:10 p.m. Registration begins at 5 p.m. There will be commemorative long-sleeve T-shirts and jingle bells with laces. Music, food, vendors, Santa, a kids zone and VIP tent will be available. Dec. 15-16: Junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour Gulf Coast Junior Championship on Dec. 15-16 in Gulf Shores, Ala. The entry deadline is noon Dec. 12. Call Owen Seiler at 318-402-2446 or enter online at www.arrowheadjgt.com.

Ongoing: The Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex is offering a Learn to Skate Program taught by professional coaches and Olympians using the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills Program. The basic skills program is a beginning ice skating program that features nine levels, from Snowplow Sam (tots) through Basic 8. There also are adult levels 1-4. Sessions last eight weeks and run year round. Skaters may sign up for lessons that run once, twice or three times per week for a 45-minute group class.
