MANATEE -- Shared attic space above two residences allowed a Manatee County man to enter his neighbor's home and take a pack of cigarettes, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Deputies responded to the a burglary complaint in the 1200 block of Idlewild Court about 6:45 p.m. Monday.

The victim told deputies that someone entered her house using the attic access and suspects it was her neighbor. The victim reported that a pack of cigarettes was missing and her attic access was left open.

Deputies confirmed that there were no walls in the attic separating the victim’s house from the neighbor’s home.

Deputies conducted a "knock and talk" and met with the other neighbor, who admitted to being home alone during the incident.

Additional evidence was recovered from the suspect. Joper Vanhoof, 30, invoked his rights and was arrested without incident, the sheriff's office reported.
