Miami Hurricanes coach Al Golden said earlier this week that as soon as the team is done with the Duke game Saturday, nobody will be taking any time off.

“We’re not going to run, but we’ll start lifting,” Golden said.

“If we don’t do it now then that 14 days turns into a month [with vacation], and we can’t afford to lose that. It keeps structure. We can make sure they’re eating right, going to class, finish up well in class, get stronger. We’re not trying to wear them out. But we are going to get back to the weight room.”

By taking their second consecutive self-imposed bowl ban, the University of Miami will be missing out on 15 extra practices once again.

Golden and his assistant coaches don’t necessarily see that as a problem because more freshmen got to play this season.

“You can always say that having 15 practices is better than having no practices, but it is what it is,” Hurricanes offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said.

“We’ll go out there, have a great spring. And we have everybody back.

“Everybody is going to be playing a little bit stronger, a little bit faster, a little bit fresher. And their knowledge base of the offense will be so much better. We just put the no-huddle aspect of the offense in during camp.”
