Previous coverage: Prep Academy's Lamprecht faces eviction, owes thousands in rent

Published: November 22, 2012

BRADENTON -- The owner of the Cortez Road property where The Prep Academy is located is suing school owner Hendrik Lamprecht for more than $57,000 in unpaid rent and damages, court records show.

A civil action complaint filed Nov. 2 says Lamprecht has not paid $10,383 monthly rent to school property owner John Rekkas since March. Included in the rent are property taxes amounting to $1,250.

When called this week, Rekkas' wife, Vasilki, said the couple "did not want to speak about it." Rekkas is being represented by Mackey Law Group.

Lamprecht did not return a reporter's call.

Rekkas seeks to evict Lamprecht from his school premises and wants payment for rent, attorney's fees and other damages.

Lamprecht has operated four Manatee schools under different names since 2010. The first three were shut down due to foreclosure, lack of funds or other controversy. The current status of The Prep Academy is unclear. Teachers have told the Bradenton Herald they are not getting paid and the principal has resigned.

The school has employed about a dozen teachers with about 50 students.

Lamprecht is also being sued by three other parties who are seeking money they say they are owed.

Twelve former teachers say he owes them more than $200,000 in unpaid salary for their time at The Bradenton Prep, the first school he operated in the county. That lawsuit has stalled in court as Lamprecht has objected to handing over documents and changed attorneys.

Bradenton Prep parent Donna Cramer filed a lawsuit against Lamprecht in January 2011, seeking more than $15,000 in attorney fees, costs and punitive damages. She said she paid more than $10,000 in tuition up front to receive a tuition break, but received none of that money back after withdrawing her son from the school. She said Lamprecht had met with parents several times, assuring them that financial problems would soon be over.

The case has been inactive since March 2011, when Lamprecht filed a written response to allegations of breach of contract and fraud.

Local football coach Joseph Hammond says Lamprecht owes him $150,000 in unpaid loans that Hammond made to the school in 2007, when it was named Bradenton Prepatory Academy. One of Hammond's attorney's withdrew from the case in August 2012, but there has been no new action since he updated his attorney information in September.

All three lawsuits are open.
