Foreclosure rates drop in Manatee, Sarasota counties

MANATEE -- Data on foreclosures in North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota showed a decrease for September over the same period a year ago, according to CoreLogic.

The data released Tuesday shows the rate of North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota area foreclosures among outstanding mortgage loans was 10.52 percent in September 2012, a decrease of 1.37 percentage points compared to September 2011 when the rate was 11.89 percent. Foreclosure activity in North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota was higher than the national foreclosure rate, which was 3.25 percent for September 2012.

The mortgage delinquency rate also decreased. According to data for September, 14.81 percent of mortgage loans were 90 days or more delinquent compared to 16.23 percent for the same period last year.

2 restaurants recognized for no violations

MANATEE -- Two local restaurants were among 30 food service facilities in the state the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Division of Hotels and Restaurants Tuesday said had no safety or sanitation violations within the past year. The local restaurants were Double D's Backwoods Barbecue, 36810 Manatee Ave. E., Myakka City and Winestyle Store, 8225 Natures Way, Lakewood Ranch.

These businesses have shown a pattern of complying with sanitation and safety standards outlined in the Federal Food and Drug Administration's Food Code, the state said.

Open house to celebrate Small Business Saturday

MANATEE -- Retro Rosie's and Cobweb's Unique Finds, 817 Manatee Ave. E., are planning a holiday open house to celebrate Small Business Saturday.

Mobile, the mobile specialty retail unit of Best Buy, joined with the Grammy Foundation to donate $2,000 to Southeast High School in support of the school's music program.

Beach Bistro named tops in Gulf Coast Region by Zagat

HOLMES BEACH -- The Beach Bistro was named the No. 1 restaurant in Tampa Bay and the Florida Gulf Coast Region in Zagat's 2013 America's Top Restaurants Survey. The Bistro received 28 out of 30 points for cuisine and 27 out of 30 for service.

Evolucia finishes first phase of installation at Navy base

SARASOTA -- Evolucia Inc. has completed the first phase of its installation of LED light fixtures at the Joint Base Andrews Naval Air Facility in Washington.

The initial installation included more than 1,400 of Evolucia's LED light emitting diode canopy and light pack fixtures.
