Driver suffers serious injuries in single-vehicle accident on University Parkway

SARASOTA -- A 37-year-old Sarasota man suffered serious injuries Monday night when his 2005 Hummer overturned on University Parkway at Whitfield Avenue, the Florida Highway reports.

The driver was was traveling eastbound on University Parkway about 8:58 p.m., when his vehicle began to leave the right lane and head onto the grassy shoulder, hitting a culvert.

The driver attempted to steer back onto the roadway but over-corrected causing the right side tires to sink into the grass and to overturn several times before coming to final rest on its roof, he highway patrol reported.

He was transported to Blake Medical Center for treatment.
