MANATEE -- An 83-year-old Parrish woman was charged with running a red light and causing a crash that caused a second vehicle to overturn, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
About 5:09 p.m. Sunday, Dorothy S. Daugherty, was westbound on U.S. 301 in the left-turn lane approaching Chin Road, when she failed to stop on a red turn signal and made a left turn into the path of a car driven by a Sarasota man, according to a news release.
The collision drove the second into the south shoulder of U.S. 301, where it overturned, colliding into a railing and crosswalk sign, then into a ditch. The driver suffered minor injuries, according to FHP.
Daugherty, who was not injured, was cited for failure to stop at a steady red signal, according to the report.
