Fleeing burglary suspect crashes car in Manatee County

Manatee County Sheriff's deputies blocked off a section of road from U.S. 301 to 18th Street East and 26th Avenue East following a two-vehicle collision about 7:15 p.m. Sunday. About one dozen sheriff's cars were on the scene, plus at least one ambulance and one fire truck. Deputies at the scene declined to provide any information about the incident.

MANATEE -- A burglary suspect fled in his car from deputies who had surrounded the scene of the crime in the 2700 block of 4th Street West about 6:44 p.m. Sunday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect nearly hit a deputy who was placing stop sticks in the road. The deputy was narrowly able to avoid being hit, the sheriff's office said.

A pursuit was initiated resulting in a crash at 2600 15th Street West.

A section of 26th Avenue between U.S. 301 and 15th Street East was closed Sunday night for about a hour as investigators sorted out what had happened.

Christian McClenden, 22, of Bradenton was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
