MANATEE -- The Manatee Players is partnering with Manatee Children's Services, a Bradenton-based community service that works to benefit abused and neglected children, to collect toys and gifts for local children and teens. Last year, MCS helped provide Christmas gifts for more than 200 young people and this year the need is even greater.
New unwrapped toys and gift items can be dropped off at the Manatee Players, 102 Old Main St. in downtown Bradenton or directly to the MCS office at 453 Cortez Road W. in Orange Blossom Plaza. Gift items for teens are especially needed and wrapping paper, tape and bows are also most welcome.
Be A Santa to a Senior begins
BRADENTON -- Home Instead Senior Care is sponsoring its eighth annual Be a Santa to a Senior event benefiting nursing home residents in Manatee County. Concession Charities partnering with Girls Inc.
MANATEE -- Concession Charities is partnering with Girls Incorporated of Sarasota for a second year to help local families have a happy holiday season. "Project: Santa's Helpers," which is made possible thanks to a generous donation from Concession Charities, through the Helping Families Excel Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, is the name of the program benefiting needy area families.
The goal of "Project: Santa's Helpers" is to provide three gifts and books for children from 100 families. Volunteers from Concession Charities, Girls Inc., The Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Young Professionals Group of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce participate in shopping for the selected families.
Super Pawn collecting food, toys for holiday
BRADENTON -- America's Super Pawn, Inc., 5137 14th St. W., is sponsoring its second annual Season of Giving event benefiting All Faiths Food Bank and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Manatee.
From now until Dec. 18, anyone bringing in a food or toy donation will receive a raffle ticket to win a new Lenovo Ideapad laptop computer.

Parmalee concert proceeds to help military
MANATEE -- One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Parmalee concert set for 10:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at Joyland, 5520 14th St. W., will go to ensure that every military family in the local area with an active deployed spouse in the Middle East gets a great Christmas. 'Stuff the Bus' to helpfeed the hungry
MANATEE -- The fourth annual "Stuff the Bus" event is set for all Manatee County Publix Super Markets 9 a.m. until dark Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
This initiative to feed the hungry through the Food Bank of Manatee is a partnership between the Manatee School District, Publix, Tropicana, FM radio stations 106.5 CTQ and 92.1 The Coast, and United Way of Manatee County, to benefit The Food Bank of Manatee.
Last year, the event collected more than 100,000 pounds of food. This year, the goal is to collect 130,000 pounds. Volunteers are needed to help at Publix stores during the event. Information: Darlene Reynolds at 941-708-8770, ext. 2259.
Slicks Garage joins Toys for Tots effort
PALMETTO -- Slicks Garage, 923 Fifth St. W., is an official drop-off station for Toys for Tots starting Monday. In addition, Slicks First Fridays Car Show and Block Party scheduled for Dec. 7 will be dedicated to Toys for Tots.
This is a family friendly event, free to spectators ($5 per registering vehicle) that raises money for the local Palmetto Youth Center.

MANATEE -- This holiday season. the Manatee Forum, Republican Women Federated, is collecting funds for Manatee Food Bank and Crystal Lite packets that will be given to Manasota Operation Troop Support.
Postal workers set fundraiser for Santa Fund
PALMETTO -- The Palmetto Postal Workers annually read hundreds of letters to Santa from local children and then purchase, wrap and deliver gifts for those most in need.
Postal workers are hosting their second auction 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Country Lakes Village II Clubhouse, 6201 U.S. 41 N.
The public is invited to the fundraiser. All proceeds go to children in need.
Thanksgiving blood drive under way through Nov. 20
MANATEE -- Florida Blood Services and selected Sweetbay supermarkets, including 5802 14th St. W. and 5805 Manatee Ave. W., have joined forces this holiday season for the Thanks4Giving Blood Drive 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Blood can also be donated at Florida Blood Services at 216 Manatee Ave. E., Bradenton, and 11161 State Road 70 E., Suite 108, Lakewood Ranch.
All blood donors will receive a wellness check-up and a $10 voucher to Sweetbay Supermarkets, plus be entered into a drawing for $250 toward Bright House Networks' services.
