While the film starring Will Ferrell has been a Christmas classic now for nearly a decade, the musical of the same name that ran on Broadway a couple years back has also been proving popular nationwide.
The show, about a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa's bag of gifts and then embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, will be at the Straz in Tampa from Tuesday to Sunday.
"Elf" features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin ("The Wedding Singer"), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan ("Annie," "The Producers," "Hairspray") and Bob Martin ("The Drowsy Chaperone.")
"Elf" will not have a Thursday evening performance on Thanksgiving and instead will add a 2 p.m. performance on Friday.
Details: Nov. 20-25, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, Tampa. Tickets: $38.50 and up. Information: 800-955-1045 or www.strazcenter.org.
