The Sarasota Orchestra's chamber soirées series spotlight winds and strings with a concert today featuring the Sarasota Wind Quintet performing David Maslanka's "Wind Quintet No. 3."

Maslanka, a modern composer best known for his music for winds, has composed a piece that illustrates the interplay between the horn and four woodwind instruments.

There will also be a performance of Max Bruch's "String Octet" that features four violins, two violas, cello and the unusual addition of the double bass. The German Romantic composer's work is also considered an outstanding example of writing for string instruments.

Details: 5:30 p.m. Nov. 15, The Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center's Holley Hall, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets: $27-$35. Details: 941-953-3434 or www.sarasotaorchestra.org
