Tickets on sale for Sarasota Forks & Corks Festival

SARASOTA -- Tickets for the sixth annual Forks & Corks Food & Wine Festival are on sale for the four-day culinary event Jan. 25-28.

Presented by The Sarasota-Manatee Originals, the festival brings together regional chefs, world-renowned vintners and brewmasters, and industry insiders.

The Grand Tasting is Jan. 27 in the courtyard of The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Forks & Corks University's food and wine and seminars Jan. 26 are held in Michael's Wine Cellar and Ballroom. There also are winemaker events at area restaurants Jan. 25 and 26.

Tickets for the Grand Tasting and Forks & Corks University can only be purchased online. The Grand Tasting tickets are $85 (plus service charge) for general admission; $150 (plus service charge) for VIP admission. Tickets include free admission to the museum's art galleries on the day of the event.

AutoWay Ford to host cancer fundraiser

MANATEE -- AutoWay Ford Bradenton will host a free fundraiser benefiting American Cancer Society Thursday. For everyone attending "Go Further with Ford Night," the company will donate $20 -- up to $1000 -- to the American Cancer Society.

A computer with a webcam will be set up in the dealership to allow consumers to test their judging skills on camera in true "American Idol"style.

Tampa Port names new chief executive

TAMPA -- The Tampa Port Authority today approved A. Paul Anderson as the authority's next port director and chief executive. Anderson will succeed Richard Wainio, who had served in the position since March 2005. The board directed William "Hoe" Brown, board chairman, to negotiate an employment contract to be brought back to the full board for approval.

Anderson currently serves as the chief executive officer of the Jacksonville Port Authority. He served five years on the Federal Maritime Commission by Presidential appointment.
