n The Manatee County Veterans Day parade is set for 9:30 a.m. today at the Manatee County Fairgrounds, proceeding south on 10th Avenue and ending at Sutton Park, all in Palmetto.

At 11 a.m., a service will be held at Sutton Park in Palmetto, during which the veteran and auxiliary members of the year will be announced.

Among those taking part in the parade will be Junior ROTC units from Manatee County high schools and the Southeast High School band.

n Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice, will celebrate the annual Veterans Day Mass at 3 p.m., Nov. 11 at the Sarasota National Cemetery in honor of the men and women who have served the country and continue to serve today. The Mass is also an opportunity to pray all who are are laid to rest at the Sarasota National Cemetery.

Sarasota National Cemetery is located approximately five miles east of Interstate 75 (Exit 205) on State Road 72 (Clark Road). To park, guests are asked to park at Twin Lakes Park, where shuttle buses will drive all attendees. Twin Lakes Park is half a mile down State Road 72 (Clark Road) off Exit 205. General parking will not be available at the cemetery.

n The Bridge Street Merchants will be hosting their inaugural Veteran's Day Celebration at 11:30 am Sunday at 107 Bridge Street, Bradenton Beach on the south end of Anna Maria Island.

MacDill Air Force Base is set to provide a military flyover along the Bradenton Beach coastline.

Bradenton Beach Mayor John Shaughnessy will be giving speech along with recognition of our local veterans with a commemorative Veterans Day plaque.

Each veteran will receive a collection of gift certificates and offers from area businesses.

The Palma Sola VFW Post 10141Flag and Color Guard will also be in attendance in full uniformn.

All veterans and current service members their families are invited.

n Anytime Fitness in Parrish, 8332 U.S. Hwy. 301 N, is hosting a Tough Hero Competition 10 a.m. Saturday. The Tough Hero is the largest national gym competition to benefit military families and Active Heroes; a military charity, and is held all across America.

Each registration is used to help a military family through Active Heroes, which supports a broad range of needs. This includes helping with financial issues such as mortgage, car payments, electricity bills, or water bills. Active Heroes also helps with special needs for military children including those with fallen parents, travel assistance for military families including vehicles for disabled veterans, job referral services for unemployed veterans and business attire for unemployed veterans while job searching.

n Manatee Technical Institute's fourth annual Veterans Day 5K Race is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday at MTI's East Campus, 5520 Lakewood Ranch Blvd.

n Veterans and active military personnel will have free admission to Florida's state parks, except Skyway Fishing Pier State Park.

n Clear Sunset Car Wash, 6415 State Road 64 Bradenton, is partnering with Grace For Vets to offer free car washes for veterans Monday
