Giving back: local organizations pull together to help for the holidays

MANATEE -- All Florida Blood Services locations and selected Sweetbay supermarkets, including 5802 14th St. W. and 5805 Manatee Ave. W., have joined forces this Thanksgiving holiday season for the Thanks4Giving Blood Drive 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 20.

Blood can also be donated at Florida Blood Services at 216 Manatee Ave. E., Bradenton, and 11161 State Road 70 E., Suite 108, Lakewood Ranch.

All blood donors will receive a wellness check-up and a $10 voucher to Sweetbay Supermarkets, plus be entered into a drawing for $250 toward Bright House

Networks' services.

Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can be blood donors. Identification is required prior to donation.

Ranch Town Halljoins food drive

LAKEWOOD RANCH -- Lakewood Ranch Town Hall, 8175 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., is participating in the Manatee County Food Bank Drive. There will be a collection barrel in the Town Hall front lobby from now until Dec. 19.

Burgers & Brew supports food bank, Toys for Tots

MANATEE -- AJ's Burgers & Brew, 3550 53rd Ave. W., in support of the Manatee Food Bank and Toys for Tots, are asking customers to bring in a nonperishable food item and receive $1 off a burger, sandwich or entrée.

For those who bring in an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots, they'll receive a free beer with the purchase of a burger, sandwich or entrée. All discounts are for dine-in only meals.

Tink's Lounge to aidMarine Corps' toy drive

MANATEE -- For the third consecutive year, Tink's Lounge, 3102 53rd Ave. E., will host Tink's for Tots benefitting the Manatee County Chapter of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign noon-6 p.m. Dec. 2.

Those planning to attend the annual event are asked to donate a new toy to the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation. In return, the first 200 donors will be treated to a free heaping plate of Woody's Bar-B-Q, complete with all the traditional side dishes.
