ORLANDO — Lakewood Ranch senior swimmer Danielle Valley repeated as a state champion in the 500-yard freestyle Thursday night at the Class 2A meet at the Central Florida YMCA Aquatic Center.
Valley, who won the 200 and 500 freestyle events at last year's meet, qualified second for the finals behind CeCe Williams of Tallahassee Chiles. But Valley shaved almost 10 seconds of her time to win in 4 minutes, 40.97 seconds. Williams finished in 4:48.07.
Earlier Thursday, Valley came in second in her attempt to repeat as the 200 freestyle champion. Williams won that event by more than a second.
