Mike Bennett wins race for Manatee elections supervisor

Longtime state lawmaker Mike Bennett on Tuesday won the race to be Manatee County's next elections supervisor.

With all 113 precincts reporting, Bennett, a Republican, won with 57.1 percent of the vote.

Democrat Charles Williams Jr. a first-time candidate, had 41.6 percent of the vote.

Write-in candidate Rodney "Smokey" Smithley had 1.4 percent.

Bennett, a Republican from Bradenton, has an overwhelming cash advantage, and more robust resume from his 12 years in the Florida Legislature.
