Names and faces: News about business people in Manatee, Sarasota counties

Two attorneys of the law firm Icard, Merrill, Cullis, Timm, Furen & Ginsburg P.A. have accepted leadership positions with the Sarasota County Bar Association. Alyssa M. Nohren, who recently accepted the presidency of the Sarasota County Bar Association, joined Icard Merrill in 2006 and practices real estate law, concentrating her practice in residential and commercial real estate transactions, mobile home law, and real estate litigation. Lindsey A. Meshberger, incoming president of the Young Lawyers Division of the Sarasota County Bar Association, is an associate with Icard Merrill. She concentrates her practice in the areas of marital and family law, representing clients in actions involving dissolution of marriage, equitable distribution of assets and liabilities, child custody and visitation, child support, alimony, paternity, prenuptial agreements, and domestic violence.

The Gulf Coast Latin Chamber of Commerce welcomes its 2012-13 board of directors. They include President and Chairman of the Board Jason Fromi, Florida Blue; Vice President Jason Ramos, Berlin and Patten Attorneys at Law; Treasurer Arturo Santos Jr., Guti the Premier Beauty and Wellness Academy; Secretary Carla Rayman, Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate; and Immediate Past President Joe Mercado, Community Coalition on Homelessness. Mercado will continue to be active on the board as he transitions into the role of president and chairman of the board of the Gulf Coast Latin Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Vice president of Palmer Ranch Holdings, Ltd. Justin Powell has been named to the 2012-13 board of trustees of the Forty Carrots Family Center. Palmer Ranch Holdings, Ltd. is the master developer of Palmer Ranch. Forty Carrots Family Center is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening families in Sarasota and Manatee counties through educational programs for parents, children and professionals in the field.

Bethany B. Carr, a manager for Cavanaugh & Co., LLP in Sarasota, has been appointed to the AICPA Council. Carr was elected bythe FICPA Board of Governors. The AICPA Councildetermines programs and sets policies for the institute. It is comprised of approximately 260 members with

representatives from every state and U.S. territory.

Lisa Johnson, CPA & CS&L CPAs principal, was recognized as a 2012 Five Star Wealth Manager for the second year in a row. This award is given to individuals who exemplify top qualities of wealth managers. Johnson specializes in estate, gift and succession planning, partnerships, LLC's, S-Corporations, family businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Emerging Technologies Program Director Adrienne Gould-Choquette was named the 2012 Florida Advanced Technological Education Center of Excellence Post Secondary Educator of the Year. The award recognizes Gould-Choquette's excellence in teaching and her work with local industry partners to improve SCF's emerging technologies programs to meet the needs of students and regional advanced technology companies.

Alex Stafford Photography has hired Gabriel Hernandez as a retoucher and photographer's assistant. Hernandez is an illustrator and sketch artist skilled in post-production software applications.

Christopher Z. Staine, partner in the Sarasota office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, presented at the National Business Institute's seminar "How to Obtain Good Title in Real Estate Transactions," recently in Tampa. Staine's topic was "Ethical Considerations and Confidently Handling Title Insurance Claims and Litigation." He is board certified in construction law.
