Florida Highway Patrol seeks leads in East Manatee hit-and-run accident

EAST MANATEE -- A semi-tractor hauling a white trailer pulled away from a traffic signal at the Interstate 75 off-ramp at State Road 70 East and struck a 2007 Honda Civic in the next lane about 7:16 p.m. Sunday, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Both vehicles had been stopped for a red light. The accident occurred as the tractor-trailer rig pulled onto S.R. 70, making a right-hand turn.

The license plate for the trailer was registered to Suncoast Bakeries. The investigation is pending leads for the cab and its driver, the Highway Patrol reported.

Anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any knowledge as to the identity and or location of the hit-and-run vehicle or driver are asked to contact Crash Investigator, Trooper L.M. Barnett, of the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800. .
