Pirates name Bell hitting coach

The Pittsburgh Pirates named former All- Star Jay Bell as their hitting coach Wednesday.

Bell, who played eight of his 18-year career with the Pirates, was a career .265 hitter with 195 home runs and 860 RBI in 2,063 games with the Cleveland Indians, Pirates, Kansas City Royals, Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets.

He spent last season as the hitting coach for Double-A Mobile, and has been a member of the Diamondbacks organization since 2005.

Pittsburgh also named Rick Sofield first base coach and added Dave Jauss to its coaching staff.
