The North Manatee Storm won three Foundation for Youth Development Pop Warner football games on Saturday. The club captured games in the Mitey Mite (8-6 over South Tampa Titans), Pee Wee (56-0 over Titans) and Midget (33-7 over Titans) divisions.
The Storm finished an unbeaten 8-0 regular season in the Pee Wee division with a whitewash of the Titans. John Jones, Dylan Loggins, Jett Gillum, Jared Richardson, Dajor Murrell and Dominec McNeil all scored on offense behind the line play of Mateus Urbanski, Joshua Rupert, Ryan Ehrhart, Jackson Dietz, Donovan Ausborn, Karsen Heidenreich, Jackson Sauerbeck and Jose Zuniga.
North Manatee held South Tampa to negative total yardage, and did not allow a first down. That defensive effort was led by Jones, Gage Clarke, Jakir Fordham, Harrison Fuller and Gillum. Meanwhile, Vaughn Hayes converted three of four PAT kicks. It all added up to the first team in Storm history to roll through a regular season undefeated.
The East Manatee Bulldogs had a different outcome in four games on Saturday. The host Bulldogs won just once over the St. Petersburg Silver Raiders, doing so in the Mitey Mite (37-6) division contest.
However, that club also finished a perfect 8-0 regular season, capped by Kevin Miller's three touchdowns.
Ethan Bement, Josiah Lozada and Cameron Madison also added scores. Trevor Jackson (interception, fumble recovery), Patrick O'Keefe (fumble recovery), Bement (fumbled kickoff recovery) and Brody Theriot (fumbled kickoff recovery) led the defense and special teams units.
For the season, the Bulldogs outscored the opposition 250-84.
Meanwhile, other area Pop Warner teams were in action last Saturday.
The Manatee Mustangs had the most dominanting
performance in not allowing a point across five victories over the New Tampa Tigers. The Mustangs cranked out shutouts in the Mitey Mite (32-0), Junior Pee Wee (30-0), Pee Wee (32-0), Junior Midget (32-0) and Midget (1-0) divisions. All the games were held at Freedom High in Tampa.
The Manatee Wildcats and Palmetto Trojans split two contests at the Palmetto Youth Center.
The Wildcats won the Mitey Mite (14-8) and Midget (30-0) matchups. The Trojans triumphed in the Junior Pee Wee (32-0) and Pee Wee (26-0) games.
High school hockey
The Sarasota County Rampage, which is the only high school hockey team between Manatee and Sarasota counties this season, earned a 6-6 tie with River Ridge at the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex on Friday.
The Rampage received a pair of hat tricks from Lakewood Ranch's Brendan Nicholson and Bradenton's Jesse Bafia.
Nicholson also chipped in three assists in a six-point game.
However, the club was down two goals, before Bafia and Nicholson each netted a goal in the final eight minutes to scratch out a draw for Sarasota (1-1-2) in Lightning Conference action. The team sits with four points, which is half the total of Mitchell and Palm Harbor, who are atop the standings.
It's the second straight tied game for Sarasota. The club also played to a 3-3 draw with Durant in early October. Bradenton's Alex Zec and Bradenton's Brett Wessel each had a goal and an assist in that game.
