Wauchula couple die in Manatee County crash

October 14, 2012

MANATEE -- Two Wauchula residents died Sunday afternoon in a vehicle crash at U.S. 301 and Moccasin Wallow Road.

Flaviano Avalos, 63, and Claudia Avalos, 55, were killed in the collison at 12:05 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The Avalos were in a 1999 S10 Chevrolet, a small pickup truck, headed east-bound on Moccasin Wallow. Their vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign and broad-sided a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, a much larger pickup. The driver of the Silverado, a 23-year-old Bradenton man, sustained minor injuries.

The vehicle fatalities were the fourth in less than 24 hours in Manatee County. Shadeed Brandian, 33, died early Sunday trying to walk across U.S. 41 south of Bradenton. In an off-road accident late Saturday night, Jimmy Dixon, 32, died in an off-road accident when the swamp buggy he was riding overturned into a pond.
