Hit-and-run driver kills one pedestrian, critically injures another in Manatee

One man was killed and another critically injured along this stretch of the 5100 block of U.S. 41 early Sunday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

MANATEE -- One pedestrian was killed and another was critically injured by a hit-and-run driver at 2:38 a.m. Sunday in the 5100 block of U.S. 41, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two victims were struck by a north-bound dark-colored vehicle as they attempted to cross U.S. 41. Shadeed Brandian, 33, of Palmetto died at the scene. Several other vehicles subsequently ran over the victim. None of them stopped.

The 23-year-old man who survived the accident, a Bradenton resident, was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment.
