MYAKKA CITY -- A 32-year-old passenger drowned when a swamp buggy overturned in a pond Saturday night, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported.
James Dixon was among a group of persons riding on the home-made swamp buggy on private property when the driver entered a pond. The swamp buggy capsized and submerged, the sheriff's office said.
All of the occupants, with the exception of Dixon, escaped unharmed. Dixon never surfaced. His body was later recovered by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office Dive Team from the pond, the sheriff's office reported.
The accident happened at 10:15 p.m. in the 27000 block of Crosby Road.
