Woman struck, injured by Manatee deputy's patrol car on U.S. 41

MANATEE -- A woman trying to walk across U.S. 41 early Friday was struck and injured by a sheriff's deputy responding to a report of a burglary, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 12:20 a.m., the deputy was heading south at the speed limit when in the 5400 block of 14th Street West, near the IHOP restaurant, the woman walked out in front of the patrol car, according to a news release.

Paramedics said it appeared the woman, who was alert and responsive, had suffered a dislocated hip and possibly broken ribs. She was ta.ken to Blake Medical Center for treatment.
