THURSDAY'S PREP FOOTBALL CAPSULE:Braden River (0-6) at Bayshore (1-5)
Time: 7:30 p.m.
On the air: 1490-AM
The scoop: Both programs are having rough seasons. For Braden River, the game has the potential to be the only winnable one left on its schedule until the season finale against Palmetto Ridge, which has one victory this season. ... Both teams are coming off lopsided district losses to No. 1-ranked teams in the state. In the Pirates' case, it was a 56-0 drubbing by Manatee. ... The Pirates rank dead last in total offense among area programs, averaging just more than 100 yards a game. Bayshore is coming off a 48-7 loss to top-ranked Palmetto. The Bruins, though, shut down Palmetto's high-powered offense at first and should have enough to get the job done against a Braden River team that doesn't possess all the skill and speed guys that Palmetto does. ... Running back Calvin Williams is averaging 6.4 yards a carry this season, 2.2 yards more per attempt than his junior season. ... Bayshore isn't quite as run-heavy as in past seasons with Wesley Jackson taking over the QB duties earlier this year. Since Jonathan Lewis flip-flopped positions with Jackson, who began as a wide receiver, the Bruins aren't one-dimensional.
Prediction: Bayshore 21, Braden River 14
