Deputies: Man stabbed after he assaults wife's new boyfriend in Bradenton

October 8, 2012

MANATEE -- A 34-year-old man is in jail after he barged into his estranged wife's home in Bradenton and assaulted her boyfriend, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. During a struggle with the man, the suspect was stabbed several times in the back.

Jeffrey Rehder and the woman used to live together at a residence in the 2600 block of 23rd Street West but split up more than a year ago and Rehder moved out, according to a news release.

On Sunday, Rehder kept calling the woman, and at one point her current boyfriend got on the phone. Rehder and the man got into an argument, each threatening to beat up the other, according to the sheriff's office.

At about midnight, Rehder went to the residence and began banging on doors and windows but no one answered the door. That's when Rehder entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door, stormed past the woman and attacked her boyfriend, according to the report.

During the struggle in the bedroom, the boyfriend grabbed a knife he keeps on the nightstand and stabbed Rehder three or four times in the back. The boyfriend then called 911, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies arrived, and Rehder was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to the Manatee County jail, where he is being held without bond on a charge of burglary with assault and battery.
