Mattresses fly off pickup truck, 2 other cars crash on Manatee County's I-75

October 7, 2012

MANATEE -- Two mattresses flew out of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on I-75 south of I-275 about 9 p.m. Saturday. Two other vehicles took evasive action and crashed, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The mattresses fell into the paths of the other vehicles that were also northbound on I-75.

The driver of one of the vehicles took evasive action, steering to the right and then to the left to avoid the mattresses, causing her to lose control of her vehicle. Her car traveled off the roadway and onto the east shoulder where it struck a guardrail, bouncing back across I-75 and into the median where it struck another guardrail. The car then rotated counter-clockwise, coming to final rest on I-75, the FHP reported

The driver of the third vehicle involved in the accident steered to the left, the FHP reported.

The driver of the Silverado was charged with having an unsecured load.
